What are gateways?

Gateways are the communication infrastructure that connects sensors in your facility to the SONAR platform. They collect signals from sensors and transmit data to servers for processing and visualization.

Gateway Functionality

Multi-Protocol Support - Gateways are typically WiFi-enabled Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) devices, but can be configured to support other protocols including RFID readers, UWB systems, and LoRaWAN networks depending on your sensor deployment.

Edge Processing - Gateways can filter and process data locally before transmission. This reduces bandwidth usage and enables faster response times for time-sensitive alerts.

Security - Data transmission from gateways uses encrypted connections. Gateways can be deployed within your existing security infrastructure, including cloud, on-premise, or GovCloud environments, to align with your compliance requirements.

Connectivity Options for Gateways

Gateway connectivity is configured based on your infrastructure and operational requirements:

Wired Connections - For permanent installations requiring maximum reliability and security. Common in manufacturing facilities, defense environments, and critical infrastructure where consistent uptime is required.

WiFi/Wireless - Leverages existing network infrastructure for faster deployment with minimal installation requirements. Works well in facilities with established WiFi coverage.

5G/Cellular - For outdoor applications, mobile deployments, or locations where wired or WiFi infrastructure is unavailable. Enables coverage in yards, remote facilities, and during facility expansions.

Hybrid Solutions - Combines multiple connectivity types for comprehensive coverage. Examples include wired gateways in production areas with cellular backup, or WiFi indoors with cellular for yard management.

Gateway Deployment

Site assessment is included with deployment services to evaluate your facilities, identify connectivity requirements, and recommend the optimal mix of gateway types and connection methods. This ensures adequate coverage across your facilities while managing infrastructure requirements efficiently.
